The Method

The course of Rune-meditation will last exactly 26 weeks. First two weeks are dedicated for the preparation and after one is finished with those, the real work begins. Each of the following 24 weeks are dedicated to working with a specified Rune. The order of the Runes is standard, from Fehu to Othila – classical Elder Furthark basically. At the end of each week, the Rune is carved into a material of chose and by the end of the course an aspirant is supposed to have obtained a set of Runes which he can use as he wishes.

Main Practices

1. Stadha(Rune Yoga)(3 minutes in the morning)

– The practitioners stands in the position of the Rune he’s working with and chants its name while visualizing the energy coming in and out. The idea is to ”invoke” the energy of this Rune.

2. Mudra(7 minutes in the afternoon)

– The practitioner tries to ”invoke” the energy of the Rune by using hand-sings which can be found in the Jan Fries book “Helrunar”. The Rune is invoking by visualizing the Rune in the hand-sign while chanting the rune-poem.

3. Galdr(5 minutes in the evening)

– The practitioner vibrates or sings the name of the Rune, calling it into his life. This should be done for 5 minutes.

4. Meditation(an hour approximately, one hour after breakfast)

  • Recite an invocation to Odin(optional)
  • Sit down in Asana of choice.
  • Breath in a chosen rhythm for 5-10 minutes
  • Lay down and perform a relaxation ritual(one very similar to the one D.M.K. presented in Modern Magic)
  • Do a centering exercise for 5-10 minutes. The practitioner should visualise a golden line going through his spine which goes both deep into the ground and high into the heavens, and focus on it for the time being.
  • Imagine a Rune-stave in front of you. Start chanting the Rune-poems(either in your thoughts and imagination) and focus on their meaning. Do this for 30 minutes.

5. Pathworking(20-25 minutes in the evening, just weekends)

– I’ll scry each Rune two times. For those interested into the method I’m using, check the Jan Fries book “Helrunar” or Benjamin Rowe’s “A short course in Scrying“.

Additional Exercises

1. Read some of the Norse mythology for 15 minutes a day

2. Liber O – exercises 5,6/sometimes Scrying by Rowe(15-20 minutes before sleep)

3. Mindfulness of breath, 4 x per day(5-15 minutes)

4. Writing a Journal, both magical and daily one.

5. Each time I finish working with some Rune, I’ll write an essay on it before moving to the other one. These I won’t publish here.

6. Carve the Rune into stone/wood(haven’t decided yet) on the last day of working with it. I already have a set for divination, but I want to have another one that I’ll use for Magic purposes.

7. Surround myself with the Rune I work with at the moment. This means I’ll use the picture of that Rune as a wallpaper on my phone, as a wallpaper on my computer, as a screen saver. I’ll also draw it on paper and hang it somewhere on the wall in my room, as well as make a specific altar dedicated only to the Rune-work. I’ll have a small drawing of the Rune placed on it also.

Other Info

– During this time period, I will abstain from processed sugar, alcohol, cigarettes, TV, mindlessly surfing the web, drugs, going out on weekends and masturbating(sex is allowed).

– I’ll wake up at the same time each day, which will be 5:00 AM unless specified otherwise.

– In my meditations and other Rune-specific practices I’ll visualize the Runes in red color and red color only.

– In case I catch a cold with some more intense symptoms, I’ll post-pone the practice for the next week and resume from there.

It is also worth noting that I won’t perform the daily divination during this six-month period, because I want to be maximally focused on the Rune I’m working with.
